Meridian, Miss. Meridian's annual Hazardous Waste Day was even bigger Saturday than in previous years.
People were able to dispose of any materials that cannot be thrown away in the regular landfill. Residents brought pesticides, tires, motor oils, and many other items to be disposed of properly. This year, the city added a third location as a convenience for residents.
"We've added another site this year at Magnolia Middle School," said Contract Compliance officer Odell Hopkins. "We're trying to give all the residents an opportunity to participate to get rid of those tires, the oil, the paints, antifreeze, and those type things like that."
The next Household Hazardous Waste day is scheduled for this coming fall.
