Hewitt Writes about Wild Times

Meridian, Miss.
A Meridian native who has written several books about the history of east Mississippi has another book out this week.

Hewitt Clarke's latest work is Wild Times at Meridian & DeKalb.

The book covers people and events starting with the time period just after the Civil War ended and even touches on the 1926 Rose Bowl.

"The starting quarterback and the main player for Alabama was Pooley Hubert, who happened to be from Meridian, Mississippi," said Clarke. "That was the first time the south had ever been invited to the Rose Bowl."

Clarke will have a book signing and presentation Friday at the Temple Theatre. There is a $5 cost to attend, but all the proceeds go to benefit the Temple Theatre.

He will also be at the Meridian Public Library signing books Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a m.
