The Kemper County Economic Development Authority will soon have a new executive director.

Former Lauderdale County supervisor Craig Hitt will be assuming the post soon. Former director Brian Henson resigned in June to take another job.

Hitt attended a board meeting Tuesday as he prepares for the job. He said he's already familiar with the area and is anxious to contribute.

"It's an exciting time in Kemper County with the development of the coal plant, with what's going on with the Southern Company and the other jobs that are involved and companies that are involved in that," Hitt said. "So I'm looking forward to being part of the growth of Kemper County in the future."

Hitt will be on the job officially Oct. 1. He served as Lauderdale County's District 3 supervisor for three terms and ran unsuccessfully for the state House in 2011.
