Some West Alabama families received some much needed holiday relief on Saturday, thanks to an out of state organization.

The Miller family from Alabama, who now resides in Michigan, wanted to help their community through this holiday season. Hundreds of citizens from Sumter and Greene counties showed up to receive goods from H.O.P.E. America, in conjunction with the Miller family.

"It is so important because the poverty rate in Alabama is high and the medium income is between twelve and fourteen thousand dollars," according to Mildred Miller Greer with H.O.P.E. America. "We do these drives in the state of Michigan and we should do them in our hometown, where its important where we grew up."

A huge crowd was on hand at Sumter Central High School to receive items such as toys, bicycles, and clothing.
