Homeless Seek Refuge

Meridian, Miss. More people are finding their way out of their cold into a Meridian church that's open for all night prayer.

Life Church in Meridian offers a warm place, food and clothes for people in our area.

The number participating Monday in what the church is calling "Fire by Night" has grown, more than doubling the number from Sunday. Pastor Gary Morris says all are welcome.

"We have probably the biggest crowd that we've had the entire time," said Morris. "I think because of nightfall, and people looking for shelter, they're coming on in."

Morris says the community has helped out with donations of foods and clothes, and the doors at Life Church will be open through Wednesday night.

There are some other warm places with open doors during this cold weather. The Salvation Army on B Street also has a homeless shelter for men. The Multi-County Community Service Agency has the South Harbor family shelter open on St. Paul Street in Meridian.
