Meridian, Miss. Lauderdale County's "Good News Jail & Prison Ministry" celebrated 14 years Thursday night. The volunteer-driven organization works with Sheriff Billy Sollie to lead Bible studies and generally share the Gospel with local inmates. Chaplain Dennis Marks says each year they invite the community to come witness some of the ministries they provide and thank them for their support. Marks says there are a lot of different denominations and backgrounds represented.
"Our intention was not to go out and see if we can gather people from all walks of life, it just happaned that way," said Marks. "It's just one of those things. It's a common interest, it's a common denominator of bringing us all together for this one purpose, to try to serve people in our county jail."
The National President of Good News Jail & Prison Ministry, Jon Evans, of Washington D.C., was the speaker for the banquet.
