A benefit horse show will be held this weekend to help the family of Blaine Little.

The 21-year-old jockey from Enterprise died at University Medical Center, two weeks after he suffered brain injury in a riding accident at the Neshoba County Fair.

Those who knew and loved him are coming together to remember him and to raise money to help his family.

He loved to ride horses and he loved to do this stuff.

"We basically pulled together the horse community to raise money for his family, medical costs, funeral costs, basically whatever they need," said family friend Ashley Bailey. "We are just trying to help them out."

"I call him a kid because I've known him since he was probably three, probably born," said family friend Kandi Holland. "Great kid. Loved everybody. Great personality. Just come from a wonderful family that all the horse community would do anything for anyone."

Scotty Irons, who owns the ranch where the benefit will be held, says the community and companies are donating their time and money to help the family. He also says that the arena was for the kids.

"I built the arena pretty much for the kids in the community to have a place to go and keep them out of trouble," Irons said.

"He was racing a fellow's horse that he wanted to race that day," said Holland. "And the race started and he looked like he was in trouble from the gates."

Blaine was well thought of in the community and grew up riding horses. His friends say his death is a great loss.

"This is about everybody pulling together to celebrate the life of someone who just went too soon, that life ended way before it needed to," Bailey said.

Friends say Blaine would want everyone to celebrate and be happy.
