Hospital Boosts United Way Campaign

One of the largest donations in local United Way history is bringing the organization ever closer to its record fundraising goal.

Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center donated $100,000 Friday, a 10th of the $1 million goal set by United way of East Mississippi. It's the largest donation made by any one business in at least a decade.

"It's the largest goal we have ever had here, and we have met that goal, so we're very, very excited about what our employees have done," said John Anderson, vice-president and administrator. "It's strictly employee contribution and we've asked them to take part and asked them to contribute and they've done so exceedingly."

The United Way will need every dollar it can get if it's to meet the ambitious goal it set several months ago. With less than a month to go in the campaign, this gift brings the organization to about 75 percent of its total.

United Way officials say they have several other big corporate sponsors coming in, and they're very hopeful of hitting $1 million.

"It's going to make a big difference in the areas of education, income and health that we deal in," said Thad Quarles. "We sponsor over 80 programs through 15 separate partner agencies in the community and this is going to mean a big shot in the arm for us."

The campaign continues through Mar. 1. If you'd like to make a donation to help the campaign, you may do so by calling the local office at 601-693-2732, or by logging on to the United Way website. A link is provided below.
