House of Blessings Helps Tornado Victims

Dorothy Taylor's home was destroyed from a tornado in April 2011, but she says that numerous people came to her aid in her time of need. Because of that, she felt called to pay it forward, and opened House of Blessings, where people can come get just about whatever they need.

"Everywhere we went, people wanted to help in some kind of way, so wanted to make sure the blessings flowed, and continue to flow."

House of Blessings, located at Henderson Ridge Baptist Church in Preston, is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM until Noon. Taylor says they're there for the victims of tornadoes and of life's tornadoes, and that they can have any and everything they have to offer.

"We have clothes for men, women, and children. We have uniforms put to the side, so when the kids get ready to go back to school, we'll have an abundance of those. We give food every third Thursday. We also have furniture and household items."

House of Blessings has just about everything someone trying to rebuild after a storm needs to get started. They can't however keep providing this service if they don't have donations or volunteers, and Taylor says that's where you come in.

"All they have to do is call me and let me know they want to donate. I want to be a blessing, that's what it's all about, nothing else."

You can reach Dorothy Taylor at 601-389-5508, and Henderson Ridge Baptist Church is located on Highway 21 in Preston.
