Meridian, Miss. A former Meridian mayoral candidate is the Civil Service Commission's newest member.
Meridian's city council Monday confirmed Mayor Percy Bland's appointee, Wally Hudnall.
Hudnall, a retired grocery business owner, has run for mayor of Meridian several times, most recently last year as an independent. Bland says it's that dedication to his community that will make Hudnall a good voice for Ward 5.
"He has been very engaged in the things going on in our community, and I thought he'd be a very good choice," said Bland. "He is a good businessperson. He's going to make decisions based on what's in the best interest of the city, and I feel comfortable with that."
The commission was down to only two members, after three resigned.
Bland says he hopes to have two new appointees at the next meeting and is working to find a commission attorney following the sudden death last month of commission attorney, Henry Palmer.
