Officials at East Mississippi Correctional Facility say there was no inmate escape overnight, despite some reports to the contrary. But there was an incident.
A spokesman says two people outside the prison tried unsuccessfully to throw contraband over the security fence.
That tripped the perimeter alarm about 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Prison officials say the incident remains under investigation.
