A local group is driving voters to the Lauderdale County Courthouse free of charge.
The Independent Riderz of Meridian are trying to encourage voting in Mississippi by offering free rides to any and all voters. The group brought absentee voters Saturday morning. They said the turnout was smaller than they hoped, but they're hoping for a bigger crowd on Tuesday, when the Riderz will once again bring any voters to their designated polling places.
"It's always good, basically like your voice is being heard," Deondrae Ramos says. "And it's something that everybody needs to do. That's why we try to encourage everybody to go out and vote."
If you'd like to arrange a ride on Tuesday, you may contact the Independent Riderz at 601-938-0854 or 601-938-2869. The Riderz are taking anyone, no matter which party or candidate you're voting for.
