Flooding from Hurricane Isaac continues in parts of Mississippi, but officials say electricity has been restored to all but several hundred customers and most storm shelters have closed.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Jeff Rent says localized flooding continues, with some of the worst in Pearl River County. He said three shelters remain open in Mississippi, housing 26 people as of Tuesday morning.
Rent says officials are studying damages in five counties where there has been interest in individual assistance grants.
Right now, the assistance is available to people only in Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Pearl River counties.
Rent says officials are assessing damage in Amite, Lincoln, Marion, Pike and Walthall counties, where numerous people applied for individual assistance, even though those counties aren't eligible under the current disaster declaration.
