Jackson School Bus Drivers Set to Return

Jackson, Miss. A strike by school bus drivers in Jackson is ending.

A representative of the school transportation employees issued a statement Friday night saying the drivers will return to work Monday.

Reasons cited include concerns for the safety of the Jackson school district's students.

About half of the district's 263 bus drivers have been off the job and protesting since Dec 4. They're seeking improved pay and better work conditions.

Jackson Schools Superintendent Cedric Gray had addressed drivers at a gathering earlier Friday. Gray told them he can't raise their pay. However, he said he would get a firsthand look at work conditions: He plans to board a bus unannounced to see the unruly student behavior that drivers say endangers others.
