Meridian has landed on a list of top destinations for country music fans.
The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation announced on Thursday that Meridian has been ranked eighth on a list of places in the United States for country music fans, according to foxnews.com. That list is topped by Nashville, then Branson, Missouri. The website attributes the Meridian selection to being the birthplace of the Father of Country Music. Foundation President Betty Lou Jones says Jimmie Rodgers' musical heritage embraces all kinds of music.
Also on Thursday, festival sponsor Community Bank in Meridian announced the winners of the second annual poster contest.
Patsy Breeland of Pachuta was the first place winner. Breeland says she and her husband have loved Jimmie Rodgers music since childhood
The festival kicks off on Friday, May 17th.
