Jimmie Rodgers Museum Receives National Recognition

Meridian, Miss. Meridian is a city full of many hidden gems that bring tourists from all over the United States. Home to several attractions, the Queen City now has one of America's "Top 50 Museums Worth Traveling For." The list compiled by Flipkey.com chooses a museum for each state that is fascinating and worth traveling to. The Jimmie Rodgers Museum has long been a staple in Meridian and according to the President of the Foundation Betty Lou Jones, to have such a title for the museum is an honor.

"The Jimmie Rodgers Museum was the museum chosen for Mississippi," said Jones. "We're very excited because it shows we have a unique and authentic experience and that visitors have a wonderful time."

Just how did Flipkey select each museum for each state?

According to Flipkey.com the piles of visitor praise for the spots selected helped shape the list.

Although Flipkey.com selected each museum, the foundation believes it's all thanks to the community support. The future of the museum resides on the community as well as the amount of tourists coming in and Jones says big plans are in the works.

"We have plans to move the museum to the area around Front Street so it will be more accessible," said Jones. "It will be one of the parts of developing a museum district in Downtown Meridian."

With the 61st Annual Jimmie Rodgers Festival coming up in May, it's a way for the community to give back to a man who is called The Father of Country Music.

The Jimmie Rodgers Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. The museum is also open for special tours. Admission is $5 for kids ages 12-18 and $10 for adults. Kids under 12 get in free with an adult.
