Kemper County Continues to See Growth

Kemper County, Miss. The head of economic development in Kemper County says Kemper County is a new Kemper County.

Craig Hitt says county officials are using the construction of the lignite coal plant as an opportunity to help people in this area realize that Kemper County is growing. The county has a population of about 10,000 people and has focused heavily on tree farming and cattle farming in the past.

"I don't know the percentage, but I would say that probably 60 percent plus of the county is some type of timber related industry," Hitt says. "Either growing trees or manufacturing something through that."

Hitt says in addition to the coal plant, East Mississippi Community College is also a major source of employment in the county.
