LCSD Arrests Two Burglary Suspects

Lauderdale County, Miss. The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says it has arrested 44-year old Charles Anthony Carter and 33-year old Melissa Fay Kirk in connection with a Friday morning burglary.

Major Casey McElhenney says Carter has been charged with burglary. Charges are pending against Kirk.

A red Ford F-150 truck is also in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility after Major McElhenney says the burglary suspects were spotted traveling in the truck when the burglary happened. Major McElhenney tells Newscenter 11 that Carter and Kirk broke into a home in the 5700 block of Covington Loop Road on Friday morning. He says nothing was taken from the home.

"But during the time that they were in the area before we could get to them, they had attempted to break into some other homes," McElhenney says. "One of the particular homes, they ran into one of the homeowners who was still at home. And they came and met them at the door and was able to deter that burglary."

That homeowner was able to give investigators a good description of the suspects, which helped investigators greatly. In fact, McElhenney tells us it always helps investigators when the community is on the lookout for suspicious activity.

"Obviously, they are tired of it and they want to help us," McElhenney adds. "In turn, we are very thankful because we need all the help we can get. And we've been very successful because of people calling and giving us information that we've been able to use to solve burglaries."

Major McElhenney says this is not the first time Carter and Kirk have been arrested in connection with a burglary. He says because of this, neither suspect is eligible for bond.
