Lauderdale County, Miss. Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun and other law enforcement officers are on the lookout for suspects, who are connected to a Monday afternoon burglary and armed carjacking, in the 2700 block of Old Highway 19 Southeast. "Calhoun says the victim, who has yet to be identified, was coming home from work when she noticed that something wasn't right and called 911.
"She found a vehicle parked in her driveway," Calhoun said. "After talking to the driver off that vehicle--it was a 4 door black, foreign made vehicle--a white female was driving with blonde hair. The female indicated she had car problems, the victim asked if they could help and they indicated no and started backing up."
It was at that time, that Calhoun says things began to get out of control.
"About that time, 3 black males ran from the victims home and towards the car that had been leaving the driveway," Calhoun said. "The victim attempted to get in their car in order to follow and call 911."
Calhoun says when the victim was backing out of the driveway, one suspect shot at her and told her to get out of the car. The suspect then escaped in the vehicle. Calhoun says the victims abandoned car has been recovered thanks to a driver on Highway 19, who noticed a suspicious vehicle driving too fast, but the suspects are still loose and the sheriff's department is asking for help.
"We have a 4 door black car we believe to be foreign made, early 2000's model, being driven by a white female with blonde hair. She would have had, today, 3 black males in the car with her, two of them wearing white shirts and one of them wearing a blue shirt."
Calhoun says investigators collected evidence from the victim's home, where some items were stolen, as well as interviewed the victim. If you have any information related to this case, you can call Crimestoppers at (855)-485-TIPS(8477).
