Meridian, Miss. Students from Lamar School presented a large donation to the Anderson Regional Cancer Center Monday.
Students raised $1,287 for the center's benevolence fund, which helps patients with expenses not covered by insurance.
The money was raised at a football game by the junior high cheerleaders who sold balloons, hot chocolate, cookies and other items. They did it in honor of Liz Cain, a secretary at the school.
The money will be very helpful for people seeking cancer treatment.
"She's a really good Christian woman, and she's always there at the office if we ever need anything, and she always makes us feel welcomed," said Katherine Ward, a ninth grade student.
Cain says she was overwhelmed by all the support that the students, parents, and teachers showed during this fundraiser.
