Meridian, Miss. Tuesday night's Meridian City Council meeting was the last for outgoing council members Mary Perry, Bobby Smith and Jesse Palmer. The longtime council members lost in their bids for re-election. It was also the last meeting for Mayor Cheri Barry, who lost her seat to challenger Percy Bland. The City Council tonight put off some official business until the new administration takes over July 1st. Mayor Barry says she hasn't spoken to Mayor-Elect Percy Bland yet, but will be meeting with him during the transition. She says she wishes him well and is grateful for her supporters, "It has been a true honor to serve the citizens of Meridian, and to be a public servant for the individuals. I'm so pleased with the direction that our city has gone in the last four years, said Barry. " I'm very pleased with the integrity, honesty and the transparency that we brought to the office and I'm looking forward to the future growth of Meridian."
The Mayor was thanked by many of her friends and supporters.She says she plans to spend lots of time with family, especially her grandchildren.
