Lauderdale Supervisors Approve Voting Precinct Change

Lauderdale County, Miss. The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors approved a merging of two voting precincts in the county Monday night.

The Old Mt. Barton School precinct has been merged with the Meridian Housing Authority precinct. Those voters at the MHA precinct will now vote at the Mt. Barton precinct. Jeff Tate, the chairman of the Lauderdale County Election Commission says the arrangement of the room at the MHA precinct was not conducive to voting.

"The election commission has been aggresively looking at precincts and whether they are ADA compliant and to see if they are the best environment for voting," said Tate. "We've cracked down on those that are not and through merging, as far as tax cost will be less. Of course, we hate to confuse voters, but this will be best for the election process."

All voters affected by the change will receive a new voter registration card from the Circuit Clerk's office along with a notice with the new precinct address. If you have any questions about the changes, you can call the Circuit Clerk's office at 601-482-9731.
