Several local leaders hosted a conflict resolution seminar Saturday for area youth.

Boys of all ages filled the Council of Organizations building in Meridian on Saturday afternoon to get a better understanding of the fundamentals of education and character, leading youth to make good decisions in life and preventing run-ins with the law.

"It's important to me because it's going to solve the crime in Meridian, Mississippi and stop the violence," MHS student Christian Stringfellow says.

Community leaders tell Newscenter 11 it is crucial to start mentoring young people at an early age in order to ensure a path to success. Leaders say knowing how to avoid a conflict with others is the key.

"Sometimes we have kids who are having problems and just don't know how to get out of it," motivational speaker Jamard Wright says. "Sometimes they express themselves over emotionally, sometimes they need to know to slow down, calm down and today I'm gonna give them some strategies that will help them get out of certain issues, so we don't lead them to the violence that we've been going into the last few months."

Wright says the kids have tools that they can use to help stop the violence in not only our cities but our country as well.
