Library Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Meridian, Miss. The Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library celebrated 100 years of serving the community at an event Tuesday.

The library originally opened in April 1913 where the Meridian Museum of Art currently stands.

The library has undergone several physical changes recently, including new carpet, paint, and the upgrading of the restroom facilities.

Library director, Steve McCartney, says he hopes for even more improvements in the future.

"The idea would be to have a new public library, and I hope sometime that Lauderdale County will embrace that," said McCartney. "But right now we have more pressing needs so we are trying to do the best we can with what we have. We hope folks like what we are doing, and we just invite them to come down and take advantage of the services we provide."

McCartney encourages the public to visit the library and share ideas for the next 100 years.
