Meridian, Miss. A job fair is being announced for a company in Meridian that is looking to hire. Expected to fully reopen by the end of this month, CertainTeed is planning to hire more than two dozen people immediately. A job fair for the company will be held at the WIN Job Center in Meridian next week.
"Right now there are a lot of different skills that they need," says Nellie Satcher, director of the WIN Job Center in Meridian. "But mostly they need plant operators, meaning sort of like individuals who are able to show others how to run the materials because CertainTeed is a ceiling tile company. And the people hired are going to be working on a lot of that. Plus, CertainTeed has maintenance workers, mechanics and electricians who are needed. It's a pretty good company."
The job fair starts at 10 a.m. July 8 at the WIN Job Center, 2000 Highway 19 North.
Meanwhile, Satcher says things are continuing to improve in Meridian for people looking for work. In fact, she says the last quarter was a good one for the WIN Job Center.
During most of that time Meridian was second in the state in terms of the number of people finding jobs. The city of Hattiesburg topped the list.
"We have a little manufacturing right now that seems to be creeping back up on us," says Satcher. "We were down pretty bad for a minute, but we've got some good avenues coming in. And we've got some good news coming around in the area. Everything is looking good."
