Local Officers Complete Crisis Intervention Training

Updated: Sat 12:36 AM, Jan 19, 2013

Friday was graduation day for some local crisis intervention officers.

The group consists of officers from the Meridian Police Department and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. Training consisted of a 40 hour, five day class. Captain Wade Johnson with the Meridian Police Department says the focus of the group is to respond to those who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

"Hopefully, as a result of the training, these officers will be able, through techniques, be able to identify certain mental illnesses and those in mental health crisis', " Johnson says.

Captain Johnson says that hopefully officers will use the training to respond to those in need and be able to properly assist them.
