Local Salvation Army to Change

Meridian, Miss.

The Meridian Salvation Army office will soon have a change in leadership.

Majors Walter and Vicki Strong have served as the corps officers for the Meridian area since June of 2012.

They are being transferred to Montgomery, Ala., and will last serve the meridian area on June 15.

Major Walter Strong says he will miss the people of Meridian, but is proud of some positive things that were accomplished in the past two years.

"We've redone our shelter from a program standpoint, where we are helping the gentlemen who stay in our lodge to function back into society, find jobs, get education and do a lot of things they need to do to function in society," Strong said.

The Strongs will be succeeded by Majors Glenn and Teresa Riggs, who are coming to Meridian from Gadsden, Ala.
