The Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity has unveiled plans it has to construct new and environmentally friendly homes in the community.
Students and professors from Auburn University were approached to draw up the designs for the new green homes, set to be built sometime in the Fall. The designers say they researched the architecture in the area prior to creating the designs and say they look forward to building the energy-efficient homes.
"Well going green, particularly for habitat homeowners, is incredibly important," Auburn University professor Justin Miller says. "As we have found through research, families in Alabama spend about a third of their income on utilities. So going green, there are larger environmental consequences."
