Meridian, Miss. Meridian Community College announced a learning partnership with the city of Meridian, Lauderdale County and their fire departments and fire services Thursday.
A scholarship program has been established in the division of emergency service technology at MCC that allows individuals who have received large amounts of training to convert that into college credit toward a degree.
First responders in Meridian and Lauderdale County will benefit from this new scholarship.
"For first responders, we actually waive the tuition portion for certain classes that have already been pre-evaluated, but along with that comes a forty dollar administrative fee," said Benjamin Warren, division chair of emergency service technology. "What this scholarship will do is actually waive that fee as well, or cover that fee and allow those transfer credits to happen a little more smoothly."
The scholarship program will go into effect for the summer semester in 2014.
