Paramedic Program Gets Boost

A donation to a local community college will help those who want to learn to save lives.

Meridian Community College held a dedication for a new ambulance donated Tuesday for its new paramedic training program.

The ambulance was donated by Lauderdale County and Metro Ambulance.

MCC officials say it will help students learn in a real world environment.

"Students will use this ambulance to get a taste of realism," said MCC's Benjamin Warren. "They'll learn the skills inside of a lab based ambulance, and then they'll practice those skills actually on the open road with the vibrations, the noise and the things that go along with transporting a patient to the hospital."

Warren says with the donation, MCC will be one of the few colleges that have a road-based ambulance for training. The ambulance is expected to be used immediately.
