The city of Meridian received a gift that symbolizes part of what Meridian Community College is trying to do, teach students skills.
The Welding and Cutting Technology Program presented one of two benches it made this semester that are being donated to the city.
The gift is also part of the college's 75th Anniversary celebration.
Welding and Cutting is a 1-year program that prepares students for industrial and construction work.
"We wanted to give the city something that would be a permanent fixture, that would always remind folks of Meridian Community College and also be something useful for the city," said instructor Shane Simmons.
The bench is for permanent display and use outside city hall. Another bench will be placed on the MCC campus.
