The Mississippi Highway Patrol will have an additional 80 state troopers on the roads during the short July 4 holiday.
The holiday period begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday and ends at midnight Wednesday.
Col. Donnell Berry, head of the patrol, says a $30,000 federal grant will pay for the extra troopers.
Berry says last year, one person died on roads and highways patrolled by state troopers.
