MPD Investigating Multiple Home Invasions

Meridian, Miss. Within a period of just 15 hours on Tuesday, three different home invasions took place within the city of Meridian.

Police tell Newscenter 11 the first one happened about 6:45 Tuesday morning in the 1800 block of 24th Street, which is part of Magnolia Courts. That's where an armed black male gained entry through a door.

"Door was kicked in," Detective Dareall Thompson says. "Suspect forced his way into the residence."

MPD says the second home invasion happened about 6:40 Tuesday evening near the intersection of 36th Street and 40th Avenue. That's when police say four black males forced their way into a home.

"At this time, we are still investigating and trying to figure out based on the description of the suspect and suspects," Thompson explains. "At this time, we can't make a determination."

Just a couple of blocks away in the 3600 block of 42nd Avenue, an armed white male kicked in the door around 9:30 Tuesday night. Detective Thompson says it is unusual for there to be this many home invasions in one day alone. That's why he says it's important for all residents to be on guard at all hours of the day.

"Some of the things you can do is always know who's at your door," Thompson suggests. "If you've got a peek hole, use it. Just not at night, but in the daytime also."
