MPD Makes Two Arrests

Meridian, Miss. The Meridian Police Department has arrested two people in connection with two separate incidents Friday night.

Detective Dareall Thompson says officers responded to an armed robbery and carjacking in the 2100 block of Mosby Road around midnight Friday night. Thompson tells Newscenter 11 the victim and suspect knew each other. They had been riding in the car together when at one point, the suspect demanded the victim's car and belongings.

The suspect was caught Saturday morning and taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Facility. Thompson says he is being charged with carjacking and armed robbery. No bond has been set.

Also around midnight Friday night, Detective Thompson tells us two MPD officers were hurt while responding to a domestic situation. It happened at a home in the 1100 block of 18th Avenue. A female called police after a disagreement got out of hand. When officers arrived, Thompson says a male suspect cut the two officers with a box cutter. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment, but have since been released.

The suspect is in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility and is being charged with two counts of assaulting an officer and one count of felony domestic violence. No bond has been set.
