Meridian, Miss. Officers with the Meridian Police Department took part in a closed-door meeting on Thursday.
Union President Dean Harper tells Newscenter 11 the emergency union meeting was called to discuss several matters concerning the police officers. Harper would not elaborate.
Newscenter 11 spotted numerous officers walking into the Lauderdale County Detention Facility around 4 p.m. The meeting lasted less than an hour and the other officers gave no indication as to what was discussed.
"Different matters were discussed," Harper says. "However, those matters are confidential and will not be released to the general public."
Newscenter 11 called Meridian Police Chief James Lee on Thursday night concerning the meeting. He said he learned of the meeting after it took place. Chief Lee told us he supports the officers right to have a union and encourages the officers to communicate their problems among each other.
