MPD Says Clerk Foils Robbery, Suspect Sought

Meridian police say two armed and masked suspects tried to hold up the 5 Points Food Mart, formerly known as the Dixie station, on 14th Street Sunday night. It happened about 9:30 p.m.

However, police say the clerk pulled his own firearm and shots were exchanged between the three inside the store.

The clerk received a minor grazing wound to his arm while one of the suspects was shot in the hand and the shoulder.

Both suspects fled the scene on foot but the wounded one was captured within minutes hiding in an apartment in Highway Village.

The MPD says that suspect is under guard at a local hospital receiving treatment for non-life threatening wounds and will be charged upon his release.

Police continue to search for the second suspect, who is described as a black male, 5' 8" tall, who was at the time wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants.

Officials ask that anyone with information about this suspect call Crimestoppers at 601-485-1860.
