MPD Hosts Prescription Drug Drop Off

The Meridian Police Department hosted a prescription drug drop off at the police station on Saturday.

The event was a chance for area residents to get rid of unused or expired prescription medications. Authorities say unused or expired drugs are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdosing, and abuse.

Officials say the non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.
