Lauderdale County, Miss. A Lauderdale County man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon, and a family member has been charged with murder. Witnesses say James N. Hill's four-year-old daughter was present when he was shot to death.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie says the call came about 4:30 p.m. to a shooting on Whippoorwill Road.
Investigators found the body of the 55-year-old Hill. Sheriff Sollie says deputies recovered a high-caliber rifle at the scene and took Hill's brother-in-law into custody.
Jeffrey Jones, who turned 51 Wednesday, has been charged with the murder. The sheriff says a previous argument apparently led to the incident.
"According to witnesses on the scene, the shooter walked from his residence down to this trailer that was being remodeled," said Sollie. "He fired at least two rounds through a window that did not have any glass in it, striking the victim, who was inside the trailer that was being remodeled."
Sollie says the victim lived on Fairchild Road, but was remodeling a trailer behind Jones' home at 8827 Whippoorwill Road.
Jones' bond was set at $500,000.
