A man from Kemper County has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for a drunken boating crash that killed his father and another man and injured a third person.
Brad Hardy was convicted on two counts of culpable negligence manslaughter in the deaths of Mikeal Hardy and Roger Gipson, who died after the incident at Ross Barnett Reservoir in 2010.
Hardy was convicted of aggravated assault for injuring another man.
Hardy wept before sentencing Monday, but Rankin County Circuit Court Judge William Chapman said Hardy wasn't emotional for what he'd done, but because he was going to prison.
Authorities say Hardy crashed into other boats at a sandbar while trying to use his boat to splash relatives and friends. His defense claimed the steering failed.
