Residents of The Oaks enjoyed their own Mardi Gras party and parade Tuesday.
Activity director Linda Coulliette said many of the residents celebrated Mardi Gras in their youth and they get a kick out of participating now.
The Oaks even has its own king and queen as well, Sammy Abernathy and Joyce Collins.
"When they have things to do then they don't get bored, worried about what tomorrow's going to bring, or the next day," said Coulliette. "It helps with the pain. It helps with anything that they're suffering with. You can see behind me. We've got people behind me that are really suffering. And now today they're all smiles and happy."
After parading through the halls, residents enjoyed king cake and New Orleans-style music.
