WTOK-TV, along with United Blood Services sponsored the annual "Mash Bash Holiday Blood Drive" yesterday, and because of all of you who donated, the drive surpassed this year's goal! Representative Katie Martin says right now during the holidays is the time of year when the need is greatest, and this blood will help our local hospitals tremendously.
"We've had four to five transplants in our hospitals just in the last four to five days," Martin says. "That's a huge usage increase that we were almost not prepared for with the holiday. This is going to restock those shelves, make sure we have blood through the new year holiday."
United Blood Services started the mash bash with a goal to bring in over 200 donors. And by the end of the night, martin says over 250 people had come through the doors.
