Meridian Fire Department Receives Recognition

The Meridian Fire Department received a prestigious award Thursday for its work in protecting the community.

The award was given by the Mississippi Burn Foundation signifying the Meridian Fire Department as one of the best departments in the state.

Mayor Percy Bland will make a formal presentation of the award to the Meridian City Council Mar. 18.

"This just actually goes to show that the men and women of the Meridian Fire Department are doing their job, are trained, our certifications, our commitment to the citizens," said Chief Anthony Clayton.

"This recognizes they are above par," said Mayor Percy Bland. "We're proud of this achievement and we're proud to have the best fire department in the state of Mississippi here in Meridian."

The other fire departments in the state that received this award include Columbus and Cleveland.
