Meridian, Miss. Meridian Little Theater Tuesday announced its line-up for the 2014-2015 season.
It includes some classic works as well as some newer productions.
Ronnie Miller, executive artistic director at MLT, says the organization wanted to continue what it started last season and add some diversity to the shows.
"We had an interesting season; it was a time of change for us," said Miller. "We started off with the idea of doing something new. It is really interesting. The people seemed to love it and I got some of the best response I’ve ever gotten. Then, of course, some people say 'that is not for me, it's not a classic' but that’s O.K."
This year's lineup includes White Christmas, Moonlight and Magnolias, Dream Girls, and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a funny play with lots of audience participation that would appeal to kids.
Miller said he believes this lineup will draw a more diverse audience but so will the in-house auditions for the shows.
"I’m hoping it has the kind of appeal we are looking for, a cross section. Obviously we have a strategic brand that we have been working on, and one of our goals, among others, is to make our audience more diverse, racially, culturally and as well as our shows,” said Miller. "Any show that is produced out here, we have open auditions. It doesn't matter, if you fit the role, if you can sing and you can dance, you'll get the role. We have a casting committee."
