The city of Meridian has received more than a million dollars in grant money from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Meridian Mayor Cheri Barry made the announcement in a press release on Wednesday night. Barry says the city has been awarded $1.2 million through MDOT's Transportation Enhancement Program. The money is specifically for streetscape and pedestrian improvements in the African American business district.
MDOT Commissioner Dick Hall will be in Meridian for a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the corner of 5th Street and 25th Avenue. The event is open to the public.
