Meridian, Miss. A truck that was transferring soybean oil into a tank spilled its contents Tuesday evening in Meridian, causing traffic to be blocked.
The incident happened around 8:30 in the 100 block of 65th avenue. The hose was not removed from the tank, then it ripped in half as the truck moved and spilled the oil. The oil is not considered toxic, but it caused slippery road conditions. Trucks dumped sand on the areas covered in oil. Cleanup crews from Jackson and Waynesboro were called in to help clean up the spill. Traffic was blocked on 65th Avenue from Old Highway 80 to Interstate 20/59 and on U-S Highway 11 West Frontage Road.
