Millions of Dollars Come to Tornado-Stricken Areas

Seven weeks after tornadoes and flooding ravaged Mississippi's Pine Belt, the federal government has approved nearly $6 million to help the state recover.

The president declared a major disaster after February tornadoes and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the storms.

More than three thousand people contacted FEMA for help. So far $2.9 million has been distributed to storm victims.

Under FEMA's public assistance program, $6.1 million may be available to reimburse state and local governments and nonprofits for their recovery efforts.
