Ministers Alliance Salutes Students

Meridian, Miss.
A special baccalaureate service is being held for all students in the Meridian community Sunday evening.

The service, sponsored by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, will be held at First Union Baptist Church, 610 38th Avenue, at 6:30 p.m.

The ceremony is not only for high school graduates but also for students being promoted to the next grade.

Chairman for the event, the Rev. Gary Houston, says with all the negative things that youth are facing today, it's time for the community to show support for the positive.

"Support our kids and let the community know that we are not just giving our kids away to all of the negative things that are going on," said Houston. "We want to encourage them, pray for them, and support them. Come on out and be a part of this great time. It's going to be a great occasion and great singing."

Meridian school superintendent, Dr. Alvin Taylor, will be the guest speaker.
