Miss Mississippi is one step closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming the next Miss America. Jasmine Murray is in Atlantic City preparing for the pageant later this month.
Before she left, Murray talked about what she has been doing since winning the Miss Mississippi title in July, putting in the hours necessary to represent the state well.
"Keeping in shape and working out and making sure that I've been eating healthy. That's very important," said Murray. "Also preparing for interview and onstage question and my talent especially."
Fans and pageant leaders gave Murray an official send-off in Vicksburg a few weeks back.
The former American Idol finalist also spent time giving back to the community and getting the word out about her platform, encouraging young girls to embrace their age.
"I've been able to work with my personal platform, 13 Going On 30, for several years now, so I've been continuing to promote that," Murray said.
The Columbus native says it feels so wonderful to be able to represent the state of Mississippi.
"I truly hope to make everyone proud," she said.
You can cheer on Miss Mississippi Jasmine Murray during the Miss America Pageant Sunday, Sept. 14, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on ABC and WTOK-TV.
