Mississippi City Becomes First in State to Pass Controversial Gay and Lesbian Resolution

The City of Starkville today passed a resolution recognizing the inherent worth of all its city's residents, including those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.
This is a first for any municipality in Mississippi. Human rights Campaign President Chad Griffin released a statement, thanking Mayor Parker Wiseman and the Board of Aldermen for today's action. calling it an example for other Mississippi towns and cities. Griffin says a poll conducted last summer found nearly 60% of Mississippians under the age of 30 support marriage equality for same-sex couples.
