Authorities say a Mississippi man has died from burns he sustained in a grass fire in western Michigan.
MLive.com says the man was found alongside U.S. 131 on Saturday in Kent County's Plainfield Township, north of Grand Rapids. The sheriff's department says it got a call about the fire at 3:45 p.m.
It says the man's name, age and hometown were being withheld until his family could be notified. His rental car was found nearby.
The department says passing motorists helped put out the flames with dirt and clothing.
Authorities say the man may have been trying to extinguish the grass fire when he himself caught fire.
The sheriff's department says the cause of the fire remains under investigation but foul play isn't suspected.
